Privacy & Confidentiality

At Haven Psychology Group, we understand that confidentiality is a cornerstone of the therapeutic relationship. We are committed to providing you with a safe and secure environment—whether in-person at our Wesley Chapel, Florida office or during virtual therapy sessions— where you can feel comfortable discussing your concerns.

Our Commitment to Confidentiality

Under normal circumstances, no one outside Haven Psychology Group will have access to any information about your participation in therapy or assessment services without your expressed written consent. This includes even the fact that you are receiving services from us.

We follow the professional, legal, and ethical guidelines established by the American Psychological Association (APA) and the laws of the state of Florida. Additionally, we are required to maintain confidential records of all therapy and assessment sessions. These records are kept secure and are not shared with any other individuals, organizations, or entities without your authorization.

Limits to Confidentiality

While confidentiality is a priority, there are specific situations where we may be required to disclose information without your consent. These include:

  1. Serious Threats to Safety: If we believe there is a serious risk of harm to yourself or others, we are legally and ethically obligated to take steps to ensure safety, which may include notifying authorities or emergency contacts.

  2. Suspected Abuse or Neglect: Florida law requires mental health professionals to report suspected abuse or neglect of a child, elderly person, or vulnerable adult to the appropriate authorities.

  3. Legal Requirements: If we receive a valid court order or subpoena, we may be required to provide information as part of a legal process.

Your therapist will review these exceptions with you during your first session to ensure that you fully understand how your privacy is protected and the rare situations in which it may be breached.

Privacy During Virtual Sessions

For clients engaging in virtual therapy or assessment services, we use secure, HIPAA-compliant platforms to protect your privacy. We recommend that you also take steps to ensure your privacy during virtual sessions, such as choosing a private, quiet location and using a secure internet connection.

Protecting Your Information

We are committed to safeguarding your personal information. Whether through our website, in-session communication, or record-keeping, we adhere to strict privacy and security protocols to comply with HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) regulations.

If you have any questions about our privacy or confidentiality policies, please don’t hesitate to ask your therapist or contact us directly at admin@haven-psychology.com.
