Dr. Elena Bicherova

Adults · Telehealth in Florida & Iowa · English & Russian

Dr. Elena Bicherova sees adults by telehealth in Florida and Iowa, in English or Russian. She works with anxiety in its many forms — including panic attacks, OCD, and intrusive thoughts — as well as trauma, ADHD and autism, and the mental health of pregnancy and early parenthood. She has practiced since 2009, in both academic psychology and clinical work.

How she works

Dr. Bicherova works from evidence-based frameworks and chooses among them deliberately: cognitive behavioral therapy and trauma-focused CBT, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Cognitive Processing Therapy for trauma. Which approach shapes your treatment depends on what you are dealing with, rather than one model applied to everyone.

Her sessions are collaborative, structured, and practical. The work usually begins with understanding what keeps a problem in place — the thoughts, the avoidance, the routines built up around managing it — and then building specific skills to interrupt that pattern. She pays close attention to the strengths and strategies you already have, not only to what is going wrong.

For clients who would rather work in Russian, she practices fully in both languages, including the vocabulary of emotion and family that is often hardest to translate.

Who she works best with

  • New and expecting mothers facing postpartum depression or anxiety, birth trauma, or the difficult adjustment of early parenthood
  • Adults with anxiety, panic attacks, or OCD — including perinatal and postpartum OCD, where intrusive thoughts about the baby are common, frightening, and rarely said out loud
  • Adults diagnosed with ADHD or autism later in life
  • Adults living with trauma or PTSD, including veterans
  • Russian-speaking clients who would rather not do this work in a second language

A few fit notes

Dr. Bicherova sees adults only, and all of her work is by telehealth. She does not provide couples therapy. Her maternal mental health work focuses on a mother’s own emotional wellbeing rather than parenting support or treatment for a child’s behavior.

If you are not sure whether she is the right fit, that is what the free 15-minute consultation is for. It can help sort out whether Dr. Bicherova, another Haven clinician, or a resource outside the practice would serve you best.

Background and training

Dr. Bicherova holds a doctorate in Psychology from Bryansk State University, completed in 2009. Alongside clinical practice she served as an Associate Professor of Psychology and has published more than sixty scientific papers. That background shapes how she works: she takes time to explain what you are doing in treatment and why a particular approach is likely to help.
