Dr. Marc Chernizer

Dr. Marc Chernizer sees clients from age 16 through older adulthood by telehealth, and brings more than three decades of experience in psychology. His work centers on trauma and PTSD, addiction and recovery, and anxiety — often with people who are managing well on the outside while privately struggling to cope. His career has spanned private practice, integrated health care, correctional psychology, addiction treatment, and geriatric behavioral health.

How he works

Dr. Chernizer is warm, collaborative, and practical. Therapy tends to begin with understanding how difficult experiences, emotions, and habits are shaping your life now, then identifying the patterns keeping you stuck and building coping and recovery skills you can use outside the session.

He draws on cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, solution-focused work, and trauma-focused approaches, choosing among them according to what a person is dealing with. His stance is strengths-based and person-centered, and the aim is practical: greater emotional stability, healthier relationships, and changes that carry into everyday life.

At a client’s request, Christian faith and values can be thoughtfully integrated into the work.

Background and training

Dr. Chernizer earned his master’s and Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology from George Fox University, completing his doctorate in 1993. He is licensed as a psychologist in Texas and holds an Authority to Practice Interjurisdictional Telepsychology through the PSYPACT Commission, which allows him to see clients located in any participating state — including Florida.
