Dr. Sarah Boutros
Ages 14 and up · Telehealth in Florida · English
Dr. Sarah Boutros sees clients from age 14 through older adulthood by telehealth — individually, as couples, and as families. Her work centers on substance use and recovery, complex trauma and adverse childhood experiences, and the questions of identity and belonging that come with cultural transition.
How she works
Dr. Boutros is an integrative therapist. She combines behavioral, emotion-focused, and psychodynamic techniques and chooses among them according to who you are rather than applying one method to everyone, with a trauma-informed and strengths-based lens throughout.
She treats the therapeutic relationship itself as the mechanism of change: her priority is that you feel comfortable enough to be authentic, including about the parts that feel stuck or unseen. She is candid that therapy can be uncomfortable, and works with you to turn toward that discomfort gently rather than around it. She values authenticity, humor, and connection in the work.
Her practice is culturally sensitive by design rather than as an add-on. Coming from a family of immigrants, she has navigated conflicting cultural expectations herself, and treats your identity and lived experience as central to the work rather than as context around it. She is currently pursuing certification in Emotionally Focused Therapy for individuals and couples.
Who she works best with
- People in recovery from substance use — and the partners, parents, and children affected by someone else’s addiction
- Adults carrying complex trauma or adverse childhood experiences that still shape how they trust and react
- People whose sense of self-worth has quietly shaped their choices for years
- Anyone struggling with boundaries, communication, or recurring conflict at home or at work
- People navigating cultural adjustment, immigration, or the pull between conflicting cultural expectations
A few fit notes
Dr. Boutros sees clients aged 14 and up, by telehealth. She works with body image concerns but does not treat eating disorders or disordered eating. Therapy focused on borderline personality features is handled by other clinicians at Haven.
If you are not sure whether she is the right fit, that is what the free 15-minute consultation is for. It can help sort out whether Dr. Boutros, another Haven clinician, or a resource outside the practice would serve you best.
Background and training
Dr. Boutros earned her doctorate and master’s in Clinical Psychology from the California School of Professional Psychology at Alliant International University in San Diego, and holds a bachelor’s in Psychology and Neuroscience from the University of Toronto. She interned at the Centerstone Consortium in Bradenton on its Integrated Substance Misuse track, and has practiced in on-campus clinics, psychiatric hospitals, rehabilitation facilities, and private practice, with acuity ranging from intensive care to weekly outpatient. In Toronto she led a research team running Emotion-Focused Family Therapy workshops for community members facing family difficulties.
