Dr. Victoria Johnson
Adults & older adults · Wesley Chapel & telehealth · English
Dr. Victoria Johnson works with adults and older adults, individually and as couples, in person in Wesley Chapel and by telehealth. Her approach is humanistic and integrative: she starts from who you are rather than from a diagnosis, and shapes the work around that.
How she works
Dr. Johnson describes therapy with her as climbing a mountain — you point to the peak you want to reach and you set off together. She makes no claim to having the answers, and is candid that her usefulness lies in helping with the barriers in the way.
Sessions explore what is actually troubling you, the patterns that keep change from sticking, and what reaching your goals would take. She draws on existential, interpersonal, narrative, person-centered and trauma-focused approaches, choosing among them to fit the person rather than applying one method to everyone, and builds on the strengths you already have as much as she addresses what is wrong. For couples she is trained in Emotionally Focused Therapy, which works on the emotional bond underneath the arguments rather than on the arguments themselves.
Her manner is warm, open-minded, and firmly nonjudgmental. She has practiced in college counseling, outpatient clinics, and inpatient settings, so she has seen a wide range of severity and is not easily thrown by it.
Who she works best with
- Adults and older adults living with anxiety, depression, or mood disorders including bipolar disorder
- People with personality disorders, particularly borderline personality disorder
- Couples working through conflict, infidelity, or a major transition, including premarital work
- People carrying trauma or PTSD
- Autistic adults working through relationship, social, or everyday-demand challenges
- Anyone who would rather explore and understand their patterns than work through a structured skills protocol
A few fit notes
Dr. Johnson sees adults and older adults. She works in person in Wesley Chapel and by telehealth, and is licensed in Florida, so clients need to be located in the state.
If you are not sure whether she is the right fit, that is what the free 15-minute consultation is for. It can help sort out whether Dr. Johnson, another Haven clinician, or a resource outside the practice would serve you best.
